The UMI Super is a smartphone that enters into the market to correct the flaws seen in the UMI Touch with a great hardware, a premium design and a decent camera performance. The 4G smartphone houses a MediaTek Octa-Core Mobile Processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of Samsung eMMC storage, an ARM Mali-860 Dual-Core GPU, 5.5 inch Full HD Screen and a fingerprint sensor.

There is an ARM Mali T860 MP2 GPU that takes care of graphic performance for excellent image qualities and videos. It also comes pre-installed with Android 6 Marshmallow, which is Android’s latest operating system bundled with the essential apps only. The smartphone combines high specification features to offer a decent performance in browsing the internet, making dial connections, playing android games and watching videos and movies in Full HD.

The smartphone is super compact with a tiny bezel and a high screen to body ratio making it to fit well In the hands with a 5.5 inch Full HD screen mounted on an outstanding metal body. It measures 5.94 x 2.95 x 0.33 inches and weighs 200 grams making it a portable device that can easily slide into your pocket jeans and walk around with it all day.

Performance

The UMI Super is powered by the brand new Helio P10 CPU, which is a Mediatek Cortex-A53 Octa Core 2.0GHz processor that is far much better than the snapdragon 615 and 801 chipsets we are used to seeing on smartphones. The ARM Mali T860 MP2 GPU, which runs at 700 MHZ with 2 cores offers fast graphic performance.

Combine this with a 4GB RAM and 32 GB of ROM, you get a smartphone capable of multitasking and providing a reliable performance. The RAM is enough such that you cannot experience any stuttering when you open multiple tabs. The storage space is also enough but if you have huge files, then you can expand the storage space with a Micro SD Card to a maximum of 256 GB to store all your apps, photos, music, videos, games and movies.

In terms of connectivity, the smartphone features a Type-C USB interface which allows you to insert the USB cable without having to look for the right face, a Micro SD Card slot and a 3.5mm Audio port. This is a dual sim card phone, or a single sim card in case you would like to expand your memory with a TF card.

Internet connectivity is available by way of Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless internet. The phone supports 2G, 3G and 4G networks, so it is upon you to choose the one you prefer the most, but most folks go with the latest 4G network since its fast. The phone also features Bluetooth 4.1 for pairing with compatible devices for faster transfer and sharing of documents, files, photos and videos.

The screen has a higher color saturation that makes it easy for you to read your texts even in the sunlight. The screen has vivid and clear images for perfect watching of videos and photos as well as using different applications.

Other Features

The highlight point for these UMI Super is on its camera. The smartphone comes with a 13MP Panasonic rear Camera that embraces the latest camera technology to offer a memorable experience in the field of photography. This is the kind of camera that a photo enthusiast would love to own, it activates, focuses and takes a shot quickly making it a perfect companion for tours and travels in documenting all the memories with a snapshot.

There is a rear flash light for taking photos in dimly lit environments or for indoor purposes so that the picture quality is not compromised. The Front camera is 5 Megapixels which is adequate for taking of selfies and receiving of video calls through Skype.

The battery capacity is another big win for the UMI Super as it promises to take you all day without draining. The 4000mAh Sony battery lasts up to 12 hours of internet use, a massive 15 hours of video play and 120 hours of music play. On our battery tests, the UMI Super is slightly above the iPhone 6S plus in as much they are in different leagues, the UMI Super recorded videos for 4 hours and 55 minutes whereas the iPhone 6 plus drained after a mere 3.5 hours.

It also lasts longer than the UMI TOUCH (which we reviewed earlier) by 20 minutes. To add the icing to the cake, the phone can charge up to 75% in 30 minutes with the use of USB Type-C thanks to the Super Quick Charging PE+ technology. On our tests, we achieved 50% in 1 hour hence putting to doubt UMI’s claim, but then still this is not bad for such a midrange phone. It took 2 hours and 10 minutes to achieve a full charge.

The finger print scanner that is slightly below the flash light is an impressive feature that the UMI super boasts of in heightening the security of your information. The Microarray 3D Fingerprint sensor lets you press your finger gently on the sensor and it unlocks in 0.1 seconds, fast enough and more convenient when compared to the traditional use of passcodes and patterns.

Conclusion

The UMI Super is a decent smartphone with premium looks which offers a good performance that most users will appreciate. The combination of  the latest Mediatek Octa Core processor, a Full HD screen protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 4GB of RAM memory, 32 GB of storage with the freedom of expanding it to 256GB makes the UMI Super the king for midrange smartphones.

Among the selling points of this smartphone fingerprint sensor and its metallic body that is very strong and capable of withstanding a blow or shock without getting damaged. As such, if it slips through your fingers on the pavement you don’t have to get worried that it will end up in the junk, you can just pick it up, wipe it and make a call as if nothing happened. The 13 megapixel camera is also a site to behold and a big plus for photo enthusiasts.

All said, if you are in the market after a midrange smartphone that will serve you well be it browsing the internet, gaming, watching movies in Full HD or listening to music, then the UMI Super should top your shopping list.
